The Family Commercial History

The Alghanim family history is intricately intertwined with the history of Kuwait, having been one of the few founding families that arrived with the original settlers in the 1700s. They played a significant commercial role, along with other families, in turning Kuwait into one of the region’s most critical trading hubs by the late 1800s.

Ahmed Alghanim established himself as one of the key figures within Kuwait’s pearl diving industry, then, sensing the shifting needs of customers in the market, he pivoted and created a highly successful building materials business, laying the foundation for Alghanim Industries.

Yusuf Alghanim took over the family business in the early 1930’s with his father Ahmed’s blessing. Under his leadership, the company grew into one Kuwait’s largest employers as it expanded and diversified its portfolio to include automotive, packaged foods, and various support services.

In the 1970’s, Yusuf’s son, Kutayba Alghanim, took the reigns and introduced contemporary business culture, professional management standards, and a strong set of values that put customers at the heart of the business. Today, as Chairman, Kutayba is the chief architect and visionary of Alghanim Industries, while trusting the role of CEO to his son Omar Alghanim in 2005.

Under Omar’s leadership, Alghanim Industries has expanded into new sectors and regions, taken further strides to creating a stronger business culture, and continues to see growth and success. Today, Alghanim Industries is one of the largest privately owned companies in the region, with a diversified portfolio of 30+ businesses, representing 300+ global brands across 40+ countries.
